Members of the Coalition for Common Ground/MOMS will be sharing important information about gun laws and gun violence prevention. Read on:
"For the past 25-30 years a very well planned, intentional effort by the corporate gun lobby have dramatically amended our nation’s laws and regulations concerning firearms to allow the carrying of firearms openly or concealed in most public places including civic offices, schools, and college campuses. Death by gun is a daily occurrence, and not even mass shootings seem to change anything.
As of August 22, in the United States gun injuries and deaths are at these levels – (www.gunviolencearchive.org)
Number of gun incidents – 40,008 (1053 incidents avg over 38 weeks in 2017)
Number of injuries – 19,958
Number of deaths – 9,953
Children 0-17 injured or killed – 2,544 (about 67 a week over 38 weeks in 2017)
Mass shooting (4 or more injured or killed) - 238 (6 mass shootings avg per week)
These incidents reported by the Gun Violence Archive do not include gun suicides which in the United States reach about 22,000 per year, or about 2/3rds of all gun related deaths."
Whatever your stance on the use of guns may be, this is an important dialogue for all of us to engage in together as reasonable, intelligent, and thoughtful adults. It is indisputable that guns are dangerous
